The Lottery had the same ways of how the government runs the society and how the people play a significant role in the society. For example, the villagers don't know the ritual's real purpose, yet they still follow the traditions without knowing what it is for. It is horrible to imagine how brutal they are to their people. Some follow the rules given by influential people; some follow the rules because that's what they see. The problem is they still manage to follow even though they don't believe in that tradition. There's no freedom nor a chance to object to the things that may seem unfair and not right. The idea of conformity in this story is gruesome and evil. That for some reason, you may think that everything is normal not until a tradition like in the Lottery would cross your life, you would definitely see how cruel a human can be. The worst thing is creating a contrasting idea to what moral values should be followed without thinking of it if it's still the right thing to do. Mrs. Hutchinson made me realize standing up for what you believe in. That was sticking up for what you believe in can help you build your self-respect. In this way, you're following through your own values and trusting your own principle. I believed that if you know how to stand to your own ground, it will also help you gain respect from other people, even if they view things differently from you. So, people should stop dehumanizing each other if they are looking for peace.
