The song "Float" counts as one of the well-known songs of The Neighbourhood. In this lines it says, "They show you how to swim, then they throw you in the deep end, I've been learning since, but it doesn't mean I'll float" this reflects the fact that society helps us build standards, but clearly doesn't help us attain or get them. In this matter, a person must be able to learn how to be independent. People must know that we are not always going to improve on a specific level, especially if we're following one standard. People have their own different ways to succeed and to be good at something. Experiencing self-reliant situations can come to your own decision to live fully or be controlled by other people. In most cases, self-reliant people survive challenges that are too heavy for a normal person would have. It simply improves your individualistic ability to be able to overcome challenges in life.
The song also may be pointing for us to find our own way in life, to be strong in holding our own. We may have been frustrated at some moment in our lives, that we can't even seem to find success in all ways even if we try. Life is not perfect, we probably made bad decisions and good ones too. Some of us may be trying to find the light as we go through dark times. But with this song and the words of Emerson in his essay, "Self-Reliance" helps us understand what life would be really mean to us, especially on how we perceive things. Because knowing that you can rely on yourself is much closer to stepping toward achieving your own goals of becoming someone you believe you are. Striving towards your own goals is hard in some cases. We may have to face several circumstances and might be feeling like we're closely falling off the cliff. But those we're just in our heads, added by our own judgments and some of the people we know. We are so afraid of being rejected that we ended up not trying. So, if you want to reach your full potential, do not be afraid. Do not spend time just thinking. Do it with rightful actions. Because who wouldn't be happy knowing that you're able to pursue them independently.
I chose this song because it does not only have a meaningful message, but also it relates to the idea of "not everything we knew, we know well" especially in a situation where making up a decision can be too difficult in terms of surviving or make a living.
